Yesterday, DEVONtechnologies announced DEVONthink to Go v2. We have been waiting for this release for quite some time and from a first glance view I would say it’s been worth it. It was the lack of a robust mobile app for DEVONthink that caused me to move to Evernote. I never really wanted to as I had learned DEVONthink and it did what I needed it to do. Being a nice fit into the GTD model but the earlier mobile app lacked often leaving me without the information that I needed and maybe had just downloaded. Since the earlier version required a sync before leaving, I often found myself without the most important information.
v2 Corrects this problem in that it Can be Cloud Based
Whether you’ve sync’d before you’ve left for a meeting or not, your information can be right up to date as you can do a cloud sync remotely. This has become standard fashion for sync and it ensures you’re working with your most current information.
Will be Putting it to the Test
Over the next while, I’ll be putting the app to the test but what I’ve seen so far I like. If it works out the way I think it will, this app will provide me the most recent data I’ve recorded to the DB. Of course, if I haven’t recorded it the data won’t be there. But, if I have, it will be and this alone will make DEVONthink a well deserved app to take a spot on my system again.
Truth be known, I’ve missed the power of DEVONthink that I simply have not been able to replicate in a product such as Evernote. Evernote is a good product and will likely suit some people better but for my purposes DEVONthink meets my requirements spot on.
The mobile version, DEVONthink to go 2, sounds as if it will compliment the desktop well. If my tests go as I think they will I’ll be taking a resounding step forward with my productivity.
